Sloss Furnace ghostly shadow men captured by the Alabama Paranormal Research Team In January 2011 researchers from the Alabama Paranormal Research Team were in Birmingham, Alabama doing research on haunted locations. We have investigated Sloss Furnace officially and made many trips there during the day. On this particular day we captured what appears to be shadow people in broad day light. While reports of the paranormal activity from Sloss Furnace have been flooding the paranormal community for decades, few pieces of tangible evidence exist. Our team has ruled this piece of evidence as inconclusive at this time until further investigation is done. We made a strong effort to go back and see if anything at Sloss that would cause the illusion of these potential shadow men and were unsuccessful.

Built in 1881, this factory was a dangerous place to work. Many workers died and many more were injured. It's the souls of these workers that are believed to inhabit and haunt the factory. Sloss Furnaces is a National Historic Landmark in Birmingham, Alabama in the United States. It was operated as a pig iron-producing blast furnace from 1882 to 1971. After closing it became one of the first industrial sites (and the only blast furnace) in the US to be preserved for public use. In 1981 the furnaces were designated a National Historic Landmark by the United States Department of the Interior. Colonel James Withers Sloss was one of the founders of Birmingham, helping to promote railroad development in Jones Valley, Alabama and participating in the Pratt Coke and Coal Company, one of the new city's first manufacturers. In 1880 he formed his own company, the Sloss Furnace Company, and began construction of Birmingham's first blast furnace on 50 acres (202000 m�) of land donated by the Elyton Land Company for industrial development. The engineer in charge of construction was Harry Hargreaves, a former student of the English inventor Thomas Whitwell. The two furnaces, of the Whitwell type, were 60 feet (18 m) tall and 18 feet (5.4 m) in diameter.
